Freelance Editors

We have an ongoing need for freelance content editors with backgrounds in the following content areas: language arts/English/literature/reading, math, science, or social studies/history.

Teaching and/or educational publishing experience is preferred, but not necessarily required if the applicant possesses a strong background in one or more of the above listed content areas. Projects could relate to any of the content areas listed above and could apply to any preschool-12 grade level.

Suitable applicants will be detail oriented and will have strong grammar and spelling skills. Suitable applicants will also have the ability to check either manuscripts or proofs for content as well as adherence to client guidelines and style. Proofs may require editing for fit. Editing may be completed on hard copy or may be completed as a soft proof, depending upon the production stage and upon client needs. Experience using Microsoft Word's track changes function is a plus.

In addition to outstanding editing skills and a strong background in one or more of the listed content areas, WT Editorial and Sunflower Publishing Services are also looking for reliable and conscientious independent contractors who possess the following qualities and characteristics:

the ability to work independently from a remote location
the ability to manage one's time effectively and efficiently
the ability to meet scheduled deadlines
a willingness to read and understand guidelines and other client materials

Notes:

Editors and proofreaders may be asked to take an editing test before beginning work on a project.
Workers hired for this position will be considered independent contractors.
This job will be performed offsite.
Editors hired to work on mathematics programs will need to own MathType or comparable equation creation software.
